Andrea
Dupont, a product of the Porcupine Ski Runners
Racing Team has recently been presented with the
greatest challenge of her life as a result of her
hard work and success both on and off the Ski
Trails. Andrea Dupont has earned a berth on the
World University Student Games in Torino Italy
January 17th - 27th 2007.
Andrea is a graduate
student in the field of Biochemistry at the
University of Waterloo. She has been a Nordic Team
member for the past 6 years while attending both
undergraduate and graduate studies. This year
Andrea was honored as FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR for
her outstanding accomplishments. "Her career stats
are outstanding," the trophy citation stated. "She
has been an Ontario University Athletic All Star in
her sport for 5 of her 6 years and then only missed
that 6th year due to illness on the qualifying
weekend. She has been All Canadian for the past 3
years by finishing in the top 6 of her events,
nationally, over the course of each season. At the
National Championships, Andrea has competed against
Olympic skiers whose names you will recognize --
Becky Scott, Sara Renner and Chandra Crawford -- all
Olympic Medallists."

earned her a berth on the World Student Games Nordic
Championship Team, in Torino Italy, January 2007.
Andrea is known for her athletic talent,
particularly her ability to adapt on race day to
whatever the conditions and whatever the needed
strategy. Known for her power and speed, Andrea is
always viewed as a threat on the race course."
Closer to home, Andrea
began her skiing career with the Porcupine Ski
Runners and she has kept that connection with her
past through her support and encouragement of up and
coming PSR racers both provincially and Nationally.
Andrea is quick with a smile and always offering a
helping hand during the hectic time during a race
weekend. When she is not our on the race course she
may be seen testing wax combinations for other
racers or just shouting encouragement to her
team-mates out on the course. With any luck we will
see Andrea in mid-December at the Ontario Cup Races
right here in Timmins on December 16 - 18.
All in all quite a year
for Andrea Dupont. Induction into the University of
Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame as Female Athlete of
the Year, All Canadian 3 years running, World
Student Games Nordic Championship Team 2007 Member,
quite a list of recent achievements for another
product of the Porcupine Ski Runners Junior Racing
Program. We congratulate you and wish you the best
of luck throughout the cross country ski season and
onward to Torino Italy.
