Hello everyone,
Just when you thought the Cross Country Ski season was over, out on the trails we go again. As you can see, this is a great way for beginners to introduce themselves to our club, sport and trail system. We welcome all newcomers and our existing members to come out and join in the fun and fitness. It’s too early for black flies and mosquitoes so all you’ll need to bring is yourself, your friends and family and a water bottle.
Nordic Walking
Join the fitness craze that is sweeping Europe. Nordic Walking is a new way to increase your aerobic conditioning in a way that is not stressful on the joints and easier than running but with excellent benefits. If you are a cross country skier it will help you maintain the fitness you have achieved over the winter and get you in condition for the winter ski season.
Walking with poles that resemble cross country ski poles on the many trails in our community is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. The technique is the same as used when cross country skiing but the poles are a little bit shorter. Using poles takes the strain off of your knees and hips when going up and down hills.
It strengthens your arms, back and shoulders and it raises your heart rate higher than walking without poles.
There will be a demonstration at the Porcupine Ski Runners Cross Country Ski Club on Saturday April 23 at 11:00 pm.
Everyone is welcome. Poles will be available for trial use.
Thanks to all
